BOE demonstrates a 55" 8K ink-jet printed OLED TV prototype

Yesterday BOE held its Innovation Partner Conference (IPC) at the Beijing APEC Center and the company unveiled a 55" 8K (160 PPI) OLED TV prototype produced by inkjet printing. The panel achieves a maximum brightness of 400 nits and a color gamut of 95% DCI-P3.

BOE inkjet-printed 55" 4K OLED TV (2018)

This is BOE's 2nd inkjet printing OLED TV prototype, the first one being a 55" 4K panel presented at BOE's 2018 IPC. These displays were both produced at BOE's R&D production line in Hefei that uses Kateeva's inkjet deposition equipment.

According to a report from Korea, BOE is working on two different technology tracks towards OLED TV commercialization - the inkjet printing one and also an architecture similar to LGD's WRGB (WOLED) TV architecture. It is reported that BOE's plans is to start ink-jet printing of OLED TVs no sooner than 2024.

Any idea where the OLED materials come from? I'd hazard a guess at Sumitomo Chemical or Merck given DuPont sold their solution OLED IP to LG.

Is the BOE printed 55-inch OLED a direct emission RGB oled display (and so, it would mean no color filters), or is based on LG display technology with WRGB with the emission of a single color (blue oled ?) that is converted to RGB with the use of different color filters ?

OLED may be yet another commodity technology if they wait until 2024 to begin mass production plans. Did you mean no later than 2024?
