Samsung opens new UK mobile movie store, to be used on AMOLED phones

Samsung S8300 Ultra TouchSamsung has opened a new Mobile Movie store in the UK. They plan to offer over 1,000 movies - which you can either rent or buy. The movies will be downloaded to your mobile phone to watch. Currently the only phone that's supported is the Tocco Ultra (S8300 AMOLED phone) - with the 2.8" AMOLED.

I guess Samsung wants to both get the word out on their new AMOLED displays - "good enough to see movies in", and also get extra income from the movies. Operators will be happy to give 3 movies away for free with each new phone, I'm sure.

LG partners with Kodak to use Exclusive OLED tech - old news from 2008

UPDATE: I just got word from Kodak that this is actually an old news bit... the deal was signed back in 2008. Kodak says that the quotes (about 'products by the end of the year') are invalid and in anyway "not confirmed". Thanks Kodak for clarifying this!

Here's the original story I published, just in case:

LG signed a deal with Kodak to use their OLED technology. It's not clear what they licensed exactly - but LG plans to use it for TVs, cell phone displays and picture frames.

It seems like there are more and more news lately about LG's OLEDs - They have increased spending on AMOLEDs, there are rumors about an Apple deal, and promise of 15" OLEDs by the second half of the year.

Kodak is looking to leverage their OLED tech via partnerships, and this is the first one announced in a long time. Kodak said that first products from their partnerships will come out by the end of 2009. They are aiming for medium size displays (12"-16"). Kodak also talks about larger displays - larger than 20", but this is further down the road.

Smarthouse claims LG confirms Apple OLED deal

This is getting interesting. The Smarthouse web site (from Australia) says that a source at LG in Korea confirmed the existance of an OLED notebook and iPhone (and also computer monitors) from Apple. They say that Apple already got a working prototype of the notebook computer.

LG still has some issues with touch-sensitive OLEDs (fingermarks...) but are working to add another layer to fix this.

It's hard to believe that LG will actually release such information about a huge customer such as apple. We'll have to wait and see...
