LG Display announces a collaboration with smart glass developer Gauzy. The two companies will showcase 55-inch FHD transparent OLED displays at the International Motor Show (IAA) 2021 (which started yesterday in Munich, Germany).

LG Display will cooperate with Gauzy to replace windows in various types of transportation vehicles to enable smart and dynamic transparent displays.

OLED webinar to introduce OLED lighting manufacturing and R2R production

An AILU (Association of Industrial Laser Users) webinar, scheduled for September 15, will introduce the basics of OLED lighting, discuss the choice for the right substrate and encapsulation material as well as the current status of roll-to-roll processing. The webinar is sponsored by 3D Micromac, the industry leader in laser micromachining and roll-to-roll laser systems.

The webinar will also show results from the EU-funded LAOLA project, which is a collaboration between German and Japanese companies and research institutes. The LAOLA project, led by the Fraunhofer FEP, develops the use of ultra-thin flexible glass as a substrate and encapsulation material in roll-to-roll technology for this purpose.

Mercedes unveiled its 2022 EQE-350 EV, with internal OLED displays

Mercedes has unveiled its 2022 EQE electric car, which is an E-Class Sedan. The car offers a 90kW battery (660 Km range) and the display will either be a 12.8-inch AMOLED or (optionally) Mercedes' MBUX Hyperscreen. The EQE 350 will start selling in mid-2022.

The Hyperscreen is a 56-inch display, actually made from three different OLED units, embedded in a single glass display. There's a central 17.7-inch panel plus two 12.3-inch panels. The 56-inch glass also includes holes for the air-vents which are integrated into the display.

Xiaomi reports high demand for its new OLED TVs

A couple of weeks ago Xiaomi started shipping its latest OLED TV, the Mi TV 6 OLED last month in China, for 5,699 Yuan (around $880). According to the company, it is enjoying very high demand for its new TV.

Xiaomi says that it has sold over 10,000 OLED TVs in 15 days - which is a new industry record. The company estimates that in these two weeks its share of the China OLED TV market is about 50%.

The US blocks Magnachip's sale to China-based Wise Road Capital, citing security risks

Earlier this year, OLED driver IC developer MagnaChip announced that it is being acquired by China-based Wise Road Capital, for $1.4 billion. We reported that the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) is looking into blocking this deal, and now the CFIUS made its final decision.

The CFIUS stated that "It has confirmed the national security risks that may arise in the United States from the acquisition of MagnaChip by the Chinese private equity fund". This pretty much cancels the potential acquisition.
