SmartKem

SmartKem is an early-stage UK-based company that develops a new class of flexible high-mobility p-type semiconductor inks for flexible displays.

Smartkem provides customized solutions involving molecular synthesis, electronic prototyping and on-site technology transfer support. In November 2013 the company announced a joint-development agreement with a major Asian display maker. In August 2014 SmartKem raised million Euro from BASF ventures and other investors. In total the company raised $37 million so far.

Solaris Chem

Canada-based Solaris Chem, develops and produces organic materials for the semiconductors and electronic industry and for academical R&D.

Solaris Chem offers materials (intermediates) for OLEDs, OPVs and OTFTs.

SolOLED

SolOLED, established in 2021 in the UK, develops a family of novel solution-based TADF OLED emitter, based on technology that was developed at the University of St. Andrews.

In 2022, SolOLED secured 200,000 GBP in new funding from Scottish Enterprise and has initiated a collaborative research project with CENSIS to commercialize its novel materials.

Solus Advanced Materials

Doosan logoSolus Advanced Materials (previously Doosan Solus), spun-off from Doosan Electro Materials in 2019, is producing materials for the electronics industry, the health and beauty industry and the battery industry.

For the OLED industry, Solus is producing HBL, ETL, EIL and other materials - and it is developing blue and green host materials. Solus is also researching new materials such as TADF emitters and quantum dots.

 

In 2015 Doosan signed a business arrangement and cross-patent agreement with Idemitsu Kosan to cooperate on OLED manufacturing.

Sumitomo Chemical

Sumitomo Chemical has been established in 1913, and since then has been researching and producing industrial chemicals and materials. Sumitomo has been working with CDT on PLED materials, and has acquired the company in July 2007.

Sumitomo is focused on OLED materials for lighting (after their partnership with Panasonic for OLED TVs did not take off). In early 2016 the OLED-A published the performance of Sumitomo's soluble OLED materials.

Sumitomo's materials are used by JOLED in its printed monitors, and in 2018 Sumitomo invested in JOLED.

Summer Sprout Technology

Summer Sprout logoSummer Sprout Technology, established in June 2017, develops OLED materials and technologies. The company develops almost all OLED stack materials, including HIL, HTL, EBL, ETL, hosts and emitters.

Summer Sprout raised almost $15 million in its first financing round to establish material R&D labs in Beijing, China. The company is building a production center in Taixing, Jiangsu province - with support from the local governments (to the tune of $71 million).

SunaTech

SunaTech logoSunaTech Inc. develops and supplies chemicals/materials and provides custom synthesis for the worldwide R&D activities in multiple sectors, especially in the organic electronics, such as OLED, OPV and OTFT.

SunaTech is located in Suzhou Industrial Park in China.

Syndy Chemical

Shenyang Syndy chemistry institute (Syndy Chem) is a private-owned R&D enterprise based in China engaged in R&D of chemicals and drugs.

For the OLED market, Syndy produces red, green and blue fluorescent emitter materials.

It is not clear if the company is still in business (its website is down).

Taizhou Tyloo Biopharm

Taizhou Tyloo Biopharm logoChina-based Taizhou Tyloo Biopharm is a chemical maker that is mostly engaged with chemicals for the bio-pharma industry and nutritional ingredients.

Taizhou Tyloo Biopharm also produces OLED intermediates.

Tetrahedron Technology

Tokyo Chemical Industry

Toray Group

Toray logoToray Group is a chemical industry group that sets organic synthetic chemistry, polymer chemistry and biotechnology as its core technologies. The main businesses are fibers & textiles and plastics & chemicals, but the company also develops IT-related products, carbon fiber composites, water treatment materials and pharmaceuticals.

Toray produces materials (ETL and HTL) for OLED display and lighting systems.

Universal Display Corporation (UDC)

Universal Display (UDC) is an OLED research company, and one of the field's pioneers. UDC is involved in OLED IP, and holds many patent related to the commercialization of phosphorescent based OLEDs and also flexible, transparent and stacked OLEDs - for both display and lighting applications. The company offers both emitting and host materials.

UDC licenses its OLED production IP, and also sells OLED chemicals. UDC's customer list include Samsung, LG, Konica Minolta, BOE and others. In fact almost all OLED displays on the market make use of the company's emitters.

Valiant

Valiant logoValiant (formerly Yantai Valiant Fine Chemicals), is a holding company and chemical maker, that is active in the areas of information materials, environmental protection materials and pharmaceutical materials.

Valiant's subsidiary Yantai Gem Chemicals produces intermediates OLED and LCD materials. In 2023 the company announced plans to spin-off and list its OLED subsidiary

VIVAN Life Sciences

For the display market, VIVAN produces specialized OLED materials and quantum dots, custom made for customer requirements. The company also offer perovskite materials.

WeylChem InnoTec, based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, is a one-site, fully back integrated CDMO dedicated to the development and manufacture of high-quality products for customers across the OLED, OPV, battery, and pharmaceutical industries.

WelChem InnoTec has a track record in the development and manufacture of LC, OPV, battery, OLED, and general display materials dating back to the early 1990s, in the days of Höchst AG. For the OLED (and OPV) sectors, the company offers development and manufacturing expertise for vacuum-deposited and solution-processed small molecules, printed electronics, and polymer systems.

Xi'an Kaixiang photo electric
