WAC Lighting shows new OLED lamp prototypes

During the Light Fair in Jacob K Javits Convention Center, New York, WAC lighting is showing some beautiful OLED fixture prototypes - one mini-chandelier, and one wall sconce. They sent us a lot of info, photos and videos of these lamps...

The OLED wall sconce uses 6 color-changeable, 3" OLEDs:

The mini chandelier uses 8 colorful, transparent, 1" OLEDs. The power consumption is 0.18W for each OLED, and together with the case, the thickness is just 2mm!

WAC lighting says that those two prototypes attracted a lot of attention - many people want to know when such products will be available... they also say that the features that attracted most population attention are: transparency, and dimmability without flickering. We do not yet know who actually makes the OLED panels.

According to Shelley Wang, President of WAC Lighting, "Our OLED prototypes reflect WAC's commitment to 'Responsible Lighting' and sustainable, energy efficient lighting. These OLED prototypes attracted a great deal of attention at Lightfair and we realize that a large number of designers and specifiers are very excited to see us take OLEDs to next level."

Ms. Wang added, "Using OLED for lighting application is still in the infant stage. Our research scientists are exploring the technology and anticipating rapid progress in commercial applications, in the years to come."

Here's one last photo of the OLED wall sconce, you can see that the colors are different now:

WAC Lighting is a US based company, building high-quality decorative and task lighting lines. WAC lighting are focused on Green energy, and they believe that OLEDs are the future of lighting. So they want to be among the first companies to introduce OLED Lighting products. Hopefully we'll hear of some commercial OLEDs from them soon, perhaps even in 2010 as OLED panels become commercially available.
