Idemitsu Kosan developed the world's most efficient fluorescent blue OLED emitter system

Idemitsu Kosan announced that it has developed the world's most efficient blue fluorescence OLED emitter system. Idemitsu's new system achieves an EQE of 14% (at current density of 10 mA/cm2), a lifetime of over 400 hours (LT95 @ 50 mA/cm2) and a color point of (0.14,0.08).

The new material system uses a tandem structure of two blue OLED emitter layers. Idemitsu says that by separating the region that causes charge recombination and utilizing TTF (Triplet-Triplet Fusion) it managed to achieve the high light output.

UDC reported excellent financial results for Q1 2022

Universal Display reported its financial results for Q1 2022, with revenues of $150.5 million and a net income of $50 million. UDC's results were better than expected as the adoption of OLED displays increases in AR/VR, smartphones, foldables, TVs, IT and automotive markets.

LORDIN hopes to launch a commercial blue OLED emitter by 2024, plans to go public later in 2022

The Elec reports that Korea-based LORDIN is progressing with its blue OLED emitter technology. The company recently filed for a high-efficiency blue OLED emission patent, and according to the company's plans it aims to have a commercial blue OLED emitter out in 2024.

Not much is known about LORDIN's technology, beyond a statement by LORDIN that says it aims to achieve over 90% IQE, and that it is based on the control of energy transfer speed between emitter molecules. the energy transfer speed between molecules inside the material to increase efficiency.

Universal Display reported its financial results for Q4 2021. Revenues for the quarter were $146 million, while net income was $46 million

UDC's 2021 revenues were a record high of $554 million, with a net profit of $184 million. UDC expects the OLED industry to continue to grow in 2022, and the company believes its revenues in 2022 will be between $625 million to $650 million (an increase of 12% - 17%).

ETRI and KAIST researchers developed a new metal oxide charge transfer complex that can enhance OLED device efficiency

Researchers from Korea's KAIST and ETRI institute developed a new metal oxide charge transfer complex that, when dispersed in the OLED stack, can improve the OLED efficiency.

The researchers have applied this material to a green and blue OLED device. The current efficiency of the green OLED was enhanced by 189%, while the external quantum efficiency of the blue OLED was improved by 17%.

Kebotix aims to start testing its novel blue OLED emitters with device makers in 2022

In 2020, US-based Kebotix was awarded with a US DoE grant to develop AI-based molecular screening technology to identify novel blue OLED emitters. The company now announced that it has managed to discover several new classes of candidate materials, and develop device prototypes.

Kebotix says it aims to start testing these molecules with device makers in early- to mid-2022.

Universal Display reports record revenues in Q3 2021

Universal Display reported its financial results for Q3 2021. Revenues were a record $143.6 million, up from $117.1 million in Q3 2020 and net profit was $46.1 million (up from $40.5 million from Q3 2020). The company has about $789 million in cash and equivalents, the it reiterates its full-year 2021 revenue guidance to be between $530 million and $560 million.

Kyushu University researchers developed a promising new two-unit stacked tandem Hyperfluorescence blue OLED emitter system

Researchers from Kyushu University reported that they have developed a promising new blue OLED emitter system, based on a two-unit stacked tandem hyperfluorescence OLED with improved singlet-excited-state energy transfer from a sky-blue assistant hetero-donor-type TADF (HDT-1) dopant.

The research reports that the new emitter system offers a pure-blue color (CIE 0.13, 0.16), a narrow spectrum (full-width at half-maximum of 19 nm), an EQE of 32% at 1,000 cd/m2 and a lifetime of 18 hours LT95. The lifetime is still lacking, but with stricter control of device fabrication and procedures the researchers say they expect that device lifetimes will further improve to rival commercial fluorescent blue OLEDs.

SK Materials and JNC join forces to produce OLED stack materials

Korea-based SK Materials has established an OLED materials joint venture with Japan's JNC. The two companies will establish a new company called SK JNC (in which SK will hold 51%) that will produce OLED stack materials, including emitters.

The materials in production will be based on JNC's technologies and patents, including ones for blue emitters - apparently the main patent is for a TADF blue emitter. SK will provide its production and sales network.
