Samsung SDI will start producing AMOLEDs in January 2007 (2"-2.7")

Samsung SDI will start mass producing active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AM-OLED) displays in January, with low yields at first, and aims to be the No.1 player in the AM-OLED business with more than 30 percent market share.

Samsung SDI plans to volume produce 2- to 2.6-inch QVGA AMOLEDs.

The South Korea-based maker saw sales of its passive-matrix (PM) OLEDs jump 67% sequentially in the third quarter, with shipments of the segment rising from 48 million units in the second quarter to 53 million units in the third quarter, according to a company presentation.
