Universal Display and Visionox announced that the companies extended their long-term OLED material supply and license agreements. The new agreement runs for five years - that's the only details of the new agreement that has been disclosed.
The original agreement between Visionox and UDC was signed in 2018.
DSCC says that OLED production will grow 94% in the Q2 2021, fueled by strong demand for OLED in smartphones, TVs and other devices - coupled with a recovery from the pandemic. Growth in OLED input area for small & medium displays is expected to grow 68%, while grow in OLED TV input area will grow by 134% over last year.
The chart above shows the total OLED (and mobile LCD) industry capacity. As you can see, flexible OLED capacity is growing - mainly from expansions by CSoT, Tianma and Visionox. There's also growth in rigid OLED capacity - from Everdisplay and JOLED.
China-based OLED maker Visionox has spun-off its PMOLED business, to create a new company called Qingyue. Visionox will now focus on AMOLED production (after having spun-off its OLED lighting unit Yeolight back in 2015).
Qingyue, which is one of the world's leading PMOLED makers, has two 370x400 mm production lines, each with a capacity of 8,000 monthly substrates (around 1.75 million 1 displays).
China-based OLED maker Visionox reported good preliminary financial results for 2020, with increased sales and improved revenues and profits. The company expects its net profit to be around 141-210 million Yuan ($21-31 million USD), which will represent an increase of 120-227% over 2019.
The company says that its ability to innovate OLED technologies (specially the world's first OLED with an under-the-screen camera and the world's first 144Hz refresh rate OLED) enabled the company to increase its customer base and in 2020 it has added OPPO and Motorola as customers.
A couple of months ago ZTE announced the first smartphone with an under-the-OLED camera - the The Axon 20 5G. The phone is now shipping, and first reviews are quite dismal in terms of the quality of the selfie camera - and the effect on the screen.
YouTuber JerryRigEverything performed an interesting teardown of the Axon 20 5G, where he shows how the technology works - there's a small transparent OLED display right on top of the camera that is attached to the regular punch-hole display. The display in this phone is made by Visionox.
According to reports from Korea, Visionox has started production at its M4 flexible OLED module line in Guangzhou.
Earlier this month Visionox announced that it lighted up its 6-Gen flexible OLED production line in Hefei, Anhui, China. The company is quickly ramping up its production capacity and is also planning a fourth panel production line in Chengdu.

China-based OLED maker Visionox posted its Q3 2020 financial results, with a net loss of $17.7 million, down from $35 million in Q3 2019. Demand for Visionox's AMOLED displays is on the rise, while demand for LCD displays (which Visionox does not produce) is down in China.

ZTE announced the Axon 20 5G, the first smartphone with an under-the-OLED camera. The Axon 20 5G features a full-screen 6.92-inch 1080x2460 90Hz AMOLED display and will ship in a few days in China for around $320.
The Axon 20 5G also sports an under-the-display fingerprint sensor - and ZTE says that it includes an "under-the-OLED" sound, which could mean that the OLED acts as a speaker membrane (in a similar way to LG's Crystal Sound Technology), but it is not clear exactly.
China-based OLED maker Visionox posted its H1 2020 financial results - with a net profit that dropped 47.3% (from H1 2019) to $13.4 million. This result was actually boosted by the sale of some assets, without which the company would have posted losses of $77 million.
Visionox revenues actually increased 4.5% to $173.8 million, but the company's profit margin was much lower as price of rigid OLED displays dropped 27% in June compared to last year. The price of flexible OLEDs was also down by 11%.
