In recent years OLED technology has emerged as the leading display technology for wearable devices - for fitness bands, smartwatches and VR headsets, due to the great image quality, the low power consumption and to the design possibilities enabled by flexible OLEDs. Following is a list of wearable devices with OLED displays:
Garmin Forerunner's running smartwatches, the 265 and 965 series, sport advanced training features for runners, including heart-rate variability (HRV, sleep quality and training load. The 265 uses a 1.3" 416x416 round AMOLED, while the 965 has a larger 1.4" 454x454 round AMOLED.
Both models will ship by the end of March 2023, starting with $450 for the basic 265 model.
Xiaomi's latest AR headset, the AR Glass Discover Edition are based on dual OLED microdisplays and feature a magnesium-lithium alloy and carbon fiber materials, wireless connectivity and Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2 Gen-1 chipset.
Xiaomi did not yet disclose the price or availability, but from the name we deduce this won't be a mass market device.
Bigscreen's first VR headset, the Beyond, is based on dual 2560x2560 90hz OLED microdisplays, offering a 93-degrees FOV. Customers of the Beyond are asked to scan their faces (using an iPhone-only app) which is used by Bigscreen to produce a custom design. The Beyond supports the StreamVR platform and can work with any compatible controller. The whole headset weights 170 grams.
The Beyond costs $999 (prescription lenses are an extra) and is available for pre-orders. The first units are expected to ship in Q3 2023.
TCL's NXTWEAR S are augmented reality (AR/XR) glasses, based on dual FHD (1920x1080) 60Hz OLED microdisplays, that provide a virtual 140-inch screen and a 47-degrees FOV.
IN August 2023, TCL announced the NXTWEAR S+, which improves the OLED microdisplays, now offering a refresh rate of 120Hz.
Xiaomi's Redmi Watch 3 smartwatch offers a large 1.75" 450x390 rectangular AMOLED display, Xiaomi's own smartwatch OS, a heart rate sensor and an SpO2 sensor.
The Watch 3 is now shipping in China for around $75.
Xiaomi's Watch S2 is a smartwatch that comes in two sizes, 42mm (1.32" 466x466 AMOLED) or 46mm (1.43" 466x466 AMOLED). The device offers a heart rate sensor, SpO2 sensor and body composition measurement.
The Watch S2 is now shipping in China, starting at 999 Yuan (around $145).
Huawei's Watch Buds combines a smartwatch with built-in earbuds. The watch itself uses a 1.43" 466x466 round AMOLED display.
The Watch Buds is now available, for around $400 in China.
Huawei's Smart Vision VR Glass is a headset that offers a 120-inch virtual screen, and is based on dual FHD OLED microdisplays with 480-nits of brightness. The headset connects to a smartphone or computer and does not include any CPU, storage or battery.
Huawei is now shipping the Smart Vision VR Glass in China, for 2,999 Yuan (around $425).
The Polar Ignite 3 is a smartwatch that offers a 1.28" touch 416x416 AMOLED display, a 192 Mhz chipset, GPS, Bluetooth, a heart rate sensor and a sleep tracker.
The Ignite 3 will ship soon for $329.99.
Garmin's second generation of the MARQ collection of luxury modern tool watches offer a round 1.2" 390x390 AMOLED display. The MARQ collection includes 5 watches, each with its own features.
The MARQ Gen-2 series will ship soon, with a price tag of $1,900 to $2,400.
