Irico group
Irico group was established in 1978 in China and manufactured color picture tube (CPT), LCD and LED-backlit LCDs. Irico produced PMOLED displays and has also begun construction of a pilot AMOLED line back in March 2009 (investment was $75 million).
Irico planned to build two AMOLED production lines in a 9.5 billion yuan ($1.4 billion) investment. It seems as if the company is no longer in business though.
Konica Minolta Pioneer OLED
Konica Minolta Pioneer OLED was established in 2017 as a joint venture between Konica Minolta and Pioneer to accelerate automotive OLED lighting. The new company was formed with an initial capital of 490 million yen (about $4.4 million) and a focus on OLED lighting for automotive applications.
The new "strategic alliance" was to combine KM's roll-to-roll flexible OLED production equipment and technology with Pioneer's achievement in OLED panel mass-production and market rollout and its car electronics business know-how. In 2019 the company was dissolved following Pioneer's withdrawal from the OLED lighting market.
Kyocera Display
Kyocera Display was established in December 2011 when Kyocera bought Optrex. The company offers LCD and PMOLED displays. It is not clear whether Kyocera still products OLED displays.
Leadis
Leadis was a fabless company that developed mixed-signal semiconductors. Leadis focused on LED drivers/controllers and also used to make PMOLED and AMOLED drivers (using their EPiC Technology for AMOLED controllers).
In January 2009 Leadis sold its driver business to Korea based AsTEK, although Leadis remained the owner of the AMOLED EpiC technology IP. In 2012 the company liquidated and is no longer in business.
Legend Display Technology
Legend Design Technology was established in 1996 in Santa Clara, California with an aim to provide software products and services for LCD and OLED display panel design, modeling, analysis, simulation and debugging.
Legend design tools and services for AMOLED enables customers to perform robust pixel and panel designs for process variation and compensation, pixel optimization and reliability and performance. The software supports a-Si, LTPS and IGZO backplanes.
Lite Array
Lite Array was a subsidiary of Global Tech Advanced Innovations, which aimed to become a PMOLED developer. The company is no longer in business.
Luoyang Sifon Electronic
Luoyang Sifon Electronic was established in 2001 in Luoyang, China, to manufacture high-melting metals such as tungsten and molybdenum alloys. The company produces molybdenum targets, tungsten targets and WCu wafers for the OLED industry and says LG Display uses their products for OLED production.
Luoyang Sifon's web site is no longer operating, it is not clear whether this company is still in business.
Luxell
Luxell Research (a subsidiary of Luxell) has developed the 'Black Layer' - a thin film structure that virtually eliminates ambient reflections, thereby enhancing display readability. Luxell has demonstrated the black layer with OLED and TFEL screens, and also has some OLED related IP.
It seems that the company's OLED program is no longer active.
MC Pioneer OLED Lighting (MPOL)
MC Pioneer OLED Lighting (MPOL) was established by Pioneer and Mitsubishi (50:50) in June 2013 to market and sale OLED lighting in Japan. MPOL was offering Verbatim's Velve OLED lighting panels (made by Pioneer and Mitsubishi).
In June 2017 Pioneer merged its OLED lighting business with Konica Minolta's OLED lighting unit to create a 50:50 joint venture, called Konica Minolta Pioneer OLED. In 2019 KMPO was dissolved following Pioneer's withdrawal from the OLED lighting market.
MicroEmissive Displays (MED)
MicroEmissive Displays (MED) was founded in 1999 with the aim of developing and commercialising a new microdisplay technology using P-OLED materials.
In september 2006 MED has announced that it has raised over $9 million, and has revealed its plans for a volume manufacturing facility for its P-OLED microdisplay products. In November 2006 we interviewed MED's CEO, Ian underwood.
In November 2008, MED have been forced to close operation following financial problems.
Midas Displays
Midas Display is a UK supplier of display modules and LED lighting products. The company currently offers several character and graphic PMOLED panels.
ModisTech
ModisTech was a Korean company focusing on OLED displays and lighting R&D, and also consulting services.
Modistech was working on flexible OLED Lighting for quite some time, and originally planned to commercialize the technology in 2010, but those plans never materialized. It seems that the company is no longer in business.
Molecular Glasses
US-based Molecular Glasses developed a new class of organic semiconductor materials for OLED displays, branded as OLEDIQ. OLEDIQ materials can be deposited by evaporation or in solution-based processes.
Molecular Glasses focused on host materials for OLEDs, and offered red, yellow, green and blue host materials.
The company seems no longer to be in business.
Multi-Inno Technology
Multi-Inno is a Chinese based company that offers small LCD and PMOLED displays.
The company's PMOLED modules range from small 0.7" monochrome panels to 2" color ones.
NEC Lighting
NEC Lighting was established in 2000 by the NEC Corporation to develop, produce and sale lighting products. NEC Lighting is researching new lighting technologies, and was involved with OLED R&D.
