Asus launches four new laptops with AMOLED displays

Asus announced its new 2020 laptops, with four models that use OLED displays. The convertible laptops, ZenBook Flip S (UX371) and ZenBook Flip 13 (UX363) feature a "NanoEdge" 13.3" UHD AMOLED display. The ZenBook Flip 15 (UX564) is a larger convertible laptop that features a 15-inch 4K OLED NanoEdge display.

The 2020 Asus ZenBook Pro 15 (UX535) is said to be the world's smallest laptop that features a 15.6" 4K OLED display. It also features 10th-generation Intel Core i7 and i5 H-series processors.

ZTE launches the world's first smartphone with an under-the-OLED camera, the Axon 20 5G

ZTE announced the Axon 20 5G, the first smartphone with an under-the-OLED camera. The Axon 20 5G features a full-screen 6.92-inch 1080x2460 90Hz AMOLED display and will ship in a few days in China for around $320.

The Axon 20 5G also sports an under-the-display fingerprint sensor - and ZTE says that it includes an "under-the-OLED" sound, which could mean that the OLED acts as a speaker membrane (in a similar way to LG's Crystal Sound Technology), but it is not clear exactly.

BOE shipped 16 million flexible OLED panels in H1 2020, plans to ship 40 million 2020 in total

During the company's conference call, BOE says that it plans to ship over 40 million flexible OLED panels in 2020. In the first half of the year BOE shipped 16 million units, and it expects to ship over 24 million units in the second half.

This target means that BOE expects its shipments to rise over 130% from 2019 (it shipped around 17 million units, according to Omdia). This 40 million target is actual a sharp drop from BOE's plans at the end of 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic - to ship over 70 million panels.

OLED material producer Jilin OLED raises $166 in an IPO

China's Jilin Optical and Electronic Materials is now a public company, as it starts trading on the Shanghai STAR Market (ticker 688378). The company raised 1.14 billion Yuan (US$166 million), and the IPO was 3,426 times oversubscribed.

The company develops and produces a range of OLED materials, including hole injection materials, hole transport materials, light-emitting layer materials and electron transport materials. In 2019 it Jilin etablished a $85 million OLED Material R&D center in China.
