VESA announces new True Black DisplayHDR standards

VESA, the video standards association, published two new True Black DisplayHDR specifications. Displays that can get this certification will have to feature a permissible black level of only 0.0005 cd/m2 - much lower than the current DisplayHDR certifications that require only 0.05-0.4 cd/m2.

In addition to this 100X improvement in black levels, True Black HDR displays will also have to show a 4X improvement in rise time. The new certification seems to target true emissive display - OLED displays, and maybe Micro-LED displays in the future as well.
