WiseChip Semiconductor, based in Taiwan, is one of the world's leading PMOLED maker (in fact in 2015 Wisechip said it's the world's second largest). Wisechip is developing next-generation PMOLED displays, including flexible panels, transparent panels and Hyperfluorescence/TADF PMOLEDs.

WiseChip recently announced its first, and the world’s first, Hyperfluorescence display, using TADF materials provided by Kyulux. Can you tell some more about this display and its properties?

This 2.70 128x64 product is adopted mostly in industrial products. The size matters in such market but the main problem was to increase the brightness due to the limited efficiency of the fluorescence emitters. The Hyperfluorescence technology helps to settle the problem and can reach up 2.5 times brighter. It performs much better readability so users do not have to stand right in front of the device. This feature adds to the value of the end product.

A few days ago we reported that MBC studio in Korea will use LGD transparent OLED displays in its 2020 Korean Election broadcast. The broadcast took place yesterday, and included six such T-OLED displays:

LG Display's transparent OLEDs feature a brightness of 150 cd/m² (peak white brightness of 400 cd/m²) and a transparency of 38% and a color gamut of 120% NTSC. The display can optionally include touch functionality.

LG Display announced that MBC Studio will adopt the company's transparent OLED screens in its Korean 2020 election result broadcast tomorrow (April 15). In February 2019 LG Display started producing its 55" FHD transparent commercial OLED displays, and LGD says that this is the first time its transparent OLEDs will be featured in a high rating broadcast (but this isn't so - see note below on DR1's June 2019 broadcast).

Chinese TV maker Skyworth demonstrated a transparent OLED TV prototype at CES 2020. Interestingly the TV offers a special "translucent" mode, as you can see in the video:

Skyworth is likely to be using LG's 55" transparent OLED panels. LG started to produce commercial transparent OLED TV panels in early 2019.

LG Display announced that it will demonstrate several new OLED technologies at CES 2020 in Las Vegas next week (January 7-10).

First up, LG Display will show new applications for the aerospace market - including 55" transparent and flexible OLEDs used in airplane cabins. LG will also demonstrate a 65" bendable OLED TV, suitable for first-class cabins, that enable users to adjust the curvature of the TV to create a more immersive experience when required. It seems as if interest in OLEDs is increasing in the aerospace industry.

Researchers from Korea's Yonsei University has developed a 3D printing technique that can be used to deposit transparent OLED displays on any shape. The new technique 3D prints both the support structure and the 3D screen electronics.

The method is based in Digital Light Processing (DLP) system that prints the transparent plastic frames, and then uses an electrohydrodynamic jet (e-jet) printer to create the OLED layers as seen in the image above.

In 2018 the Fraunhofer FEP institute announced it is starting to offer a design kit that includes several flexible and transparent OLED lighting panels. The Monarch Kit includes several colored butterflies samples, and the researchers were kind enough to send us one such kit for a short review.

So first of all, these OLEDs look beautiful. They shine a beautiful uniform colored light and are very nicely done. There's not much functionality, but it shows the potential of flexible OLED lighting quite nicely.
