Last year we reported that Visionox is looking into using its ViP maskless OLED production process, for at least some of the panels at its upcoming $7.6 billion 8.6-Gen V5 IT AMOLED production line in Hefei. Later reports claimed that Visionox decided to adopt only the standard FMM technology for the V5 fab's first production line, but a new report from Korea suggests otherwise.
The Elec says that VIsionox has changed its decision, and now looks to adopt ViP in the first production line to be installed at the V5 8-Gen production line. The Elec reports that many FMM production equipment makers are disappointed - but this could be great news for Applied Materials and its MAX OLED equipment, that will be used by Visionox in its ViP production process. The Elec does acknowledge that the decision is not final.
Back in December 2023, Visionox announced that it has produced the first mass-production sample ViP AMOLED display.
The Visionox Intelligent Pixelization (ViP) technology is a maskless production process that enables higher-density display production, at over 1,700 PPI. The idea behind ViP is to replace the fine metal mask (FMM) method with photolithography-based pixel patterning.
