Tianma developed 185Hz smartphone AMOLED display technologies, supplies first panels to Honor

Tianma Microelectronics announced that it has started to mass produce 185Hz smartphone AMOLED displays. It has supplied the first such panels to the new Honor Win gaming smartphone, that features a 6.83" 1272x2800 6000 nits 185Hz AMOLED display.

Tianma says that in order to achieve this high refresh rate, it has designed a new AMOLED pixel circuit, that utilizes dual-track independent driving architecture for data writing and DTFT threshold compensation. In the 185Hz refresh rate mode, the screen compensation time is significantly improved, the brightness ratio of the first frame is increased by 13.4%, and the image retention is optimized by 61%, ensuring clear and crisp fast-moving images.

Tianma also says that this new OLED panel has a new OLED device stack which is more efficient than the company's previous stacks. Tianma does not give more details, but it says the new OLED stack significantly reduces overall power consumption.
