Power consumption of OLED tvs

The new Sony XEL-1 11-inch display consumes 45 Watts while the typical 17 inch LCD consumes 31 Watts. I’m just wondering why the Sony TV consumes so much power. All the press releases tout how energy efficient it is, but it doesn’t seem that way to me. Maybe it consumes more power than I’d expect because it has advanced levels of contrast ratios, color reproduction, and rapid video response rates. Can anyone explain this to me?

New technology
It is strange indeed. I'm guessing that it's because Sony didn't try to lower this number at all... they were just trying to get this TV ready as fast as possible. I hope that OLED TVs will consume less and less power as the technology progresses.
