In September 2025 TCL CSOT announced that it is starting to construct its $4.15 billion 8.6-Gen inkjet printing OLED production line in Guangzhou, China. According to TCL, its printing process is much more efficient in material utilization, reaching almost 90% (compared to around 30% utilization in vacuum evaporation processes). The company says that it will be able to produce lower cost OLED displays that still maintain high performance, and with high production yields
Interestingly, OLED evaporation system developer YAS announced a few days ago that it had received a Letter of Intent ( LOI ) from CSOT, for the supply of OLED evaporation equipment for the 8.6-Gen production line.
It turns out that CSOT has decided that for some of the OLED device stack layers, it will not be able to utilize inkjet printing, and will have to use an evaporation process. It could be that in the future, CSOT will aim to convert its inkjet printing process to be able to fully print the entire OLED stack, but this will not be true for its first line.
