OLED materials developer Credoxys completes its second funding round

Germany-based Credoxys has successfully completed its second funding round, led by deep-tech VC LIFTT and Melchers Group. The company says it will use the funds to commercialize its p-dopant technology in both the Korean and Chinese markets. The company already validated some product candidates with industry partners, and these are ready for customer qualification.

Credoxys is focused on developing novel materials for both the p- and n-sides of OLEDs and organic solar cells (OPVs). The company says its newly developed p-dopants surpass current standards by exhibiting extremely low absorption of visible light and low pixel cross-talk. The materials enable the doping of hole transport materials with deep HOMO levels, making them particularly suitable for phosphorescent blue OLEDs.

OLED innovation in Poland - 2022 status and future plans

Poland is aiming to become a major innovation and high-tech hub, and the country is already enjoying a growing industry, focusing on IT, bio-technology, robotics and nanotechnology.

Poland has a strong material science and development expertise, and in recent years we have been seeing OLED and display-related ventures out of Poland. It seems Poland is poised to become an interesting location to watch for future innovation in the OLED industry.

One such company is the Poland-based Ergis Group, a leader in plastic processing active in markets such as food packaging, industrial, automotive, medical and more. In 2020, Ergis launched its first product for the optoelectronic applications (such as the display market and photovoltaics) - the Ergis noDiffusion films for flexible OLED panels (both displays and lighting) and OPVs. Ergis is using a unique ALD-based technology that enables it to offer high performance films on low cost PET films.

Early-stage startup Noctiluca to commercialize new TADF OLED compounds

A new company has recently been launched in Poland, to commercialize a new family of TADF OLED compounds. Noctiluca, which takes its name from a bio-luminescent marine creature, was established a few months ago with aims to be the world's first company to produce a commercial-ready blue TADF emitter.

Double-doping of OLED materials could double the efficiency of polymer OLED displays

Researchers from Sweden's Chalmers University have developed a new "double doping" process that basically doubles the efficiency of Polymer OLED emitter materials.

The researchers explain that doping in organic semiconductors operates through what is known as a redox reaction, in which the dopant molecule receives an electron from the semiconductor which increases the electrical conductivity of the semiconductor. The efficiency limit of current doped organic semiconductors has been limited by the fact that each dopant molecule was able to to exchange one electron only. In the new research it was shown how it is possible to move two electrons for every dopant molecule which increases the conductivity of the organic material.

Kyushu University researchers use singlet fission to achieve near-infrared OLED emitters with >100% IQE

Researchers from Japan's Kyushu University developed a new technology called singlet fission that enables near-infrared OLED materials to surpass the 100% limit for exciton production - or achieve an internal quantum efficiency (IQE) of over 100%. Singlet fission was already used in OPVs, but this is the first time that it was demonstrated with OLEDs.

Achieving over 100% is possible because at 100% IQE all charges form excitons that emit light. The new technique splits the energy from a high-energy excitons into two low level ones. The new OLED emitter materials use molecules in which singlets can transfer half of their energy to neighboring molecules while keeping half of the energy for themselves - each singlet creates two triplets. The emitters emit near-infrared light.

Merck and OLEDWorks bring their textile-based OLED+OPV installation to Frankfurt

In September 2017, Merck, OLEDWorks, OPVIUS and Kolon launched a new textile-based OLED lighting and OPV installation (called "Do we dream under the same sky") at the first Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism.

Merck and OLEDWorks demonstrate a new OLED/OPV installation concept

Merck, OLEDWorks, OPVIUS and Kolon launched a new textile-based "façade" concept that combines OLED lighting panels and OPV (organic PV panels). The new structure was launched as part of the first Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism.

The façade, in which the structure is made from Bamboo, was designed by architects Nikolaus Hirsch, Michel Müller and artist Rirkrit Tiravanija. The same installation will also be delivered to more exhibitions in Germany and Thailand during 2018.

Fluxim releases a new version of its large-area OLED simulation software, OLED-Info readers get a 20% discount

Leading simulation and measurement tool provider Fluxim recently released a new version of its large-area OLED simulation software LAOSS. The new version adds a simulation capability for temperature estimation and cross-coupling the temperature generated by the device operation itself (in the organic stack and the electrodes) and the changes in device operation due to this increased temperature (leading again to different heat generation and so on).
