TrendForce says 644,000 OLED monitors shipped in Q3 2025, rising 65% from Q3 2024 (and up 12% from the previous quarter). Total shipments in 2025 are excepted to reach 2.6 million units, up 84% from 2024. TrendForce has increased its forecast slightly from its earlier one issued in May 2025.

According to TrendForce, ASUS surpassed Samsung to lead the OLED monitor market, with a 21.9% market share. TrendForce says that ASUS launched a wide range of OLED monitors, for both gamers and creators, targeting both the midrange and high-end parts of the monitor markets. 

A YouTuber called Monitors Unboxed, launch an extensive OLED burn-in test 18 months ago, to check the MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED monitor. After this long 4,500 hours deliberate testing, the results are shared in the video below.

First of all, it's important to note that these tests do not represent real gaming or work image patterns - showing only (or 95%, to be honest) static images is the worst-case scenario for OLED image retention. In any case, the YouTube says that after about 12 months, the monitor is just beginning to show some 'annoying' burn in. After 15 months - "there's been a noticeable increase in the visibility of the main artefacts in uniform dark grey test images," though only a small change.

In January 2025, LG Display  unveiled its 4th-Gen OLED large-area (WOLED) panel technology, that is able to deliver up to 4,000 nits of brightness, using a new stack structure that has two layers of blue emitters and two more layers, one with red emitters and one with green emitters. LGD refers to this architecture as a "Primary RGB Tandem structure".

Today LG Display announced that it has started to mass produce OLED gaming monitors based on the 4th-Gen WOLED panel technology. LGD's first panel is a 27-inch 280Hz panel that delivers a peak brightness of 1,500 nits (quite lower than the potential 4,000 nits that its 4th-Gen technology enables). LG says that this panel offers the highest color reproduction rate among existing OLED panels (99.5%).

China-based SDC (Super Display Co., not to be confused with Samsung Display) says it will soon launch a new OLED gaming monitor, called the Flash 540-Meta, that will be based on a 26.5" 2560x1440 LG WOLED panel (4th Gen). Interestingly, the company says the monitor will support up refresh rates of up to 720Hz - LG Display's panel supports up to 480hz. This is a dual-model panel,normally the 480Hz mode reduces the resolution to Full-HD.

The company did not yet disclose the release date or price of the new monitor.

LG Display is demonstrating its latest OLED technologies, displays and prototypes at SID Displayweek 2025. The company is focused, this year, on three technologies: large sized WOLED panels, automotive displays, and next-generation technologies.

In the large-area WOLED zone, LG Display is showing its 4th-Gen WOLED panels, that adopt LG's tandem stack to reach a brightness of up to 4,000 nits. The new OLED panels also boost energy efficiency by approximately 20% compared to the previous generation (based on 65-inch panels), through enhancements in the element structure and power supply system. LG is also showing its latest 27-inch gaming WOLED panels, and its 45-inch 5K2K (5120x2160) monitor panel.

In 2021, Nintendo launched its first OLED gaming console, the Nintendo Switch OLED. This was a big success for Nintendo, that shipped over 20 million units by 2024. In early 2024, reports suggested that Nintendo is working on its next-generation console that will replace the Switch and Switch OLED devices, and will utilize an 8" LCD display (produced by Sharp).

Today Nintendo announced that indeed the Switch 2 device, that will launch soon, will indeed utilize an LCD display - a 7.9" 1920x1080 120Hz panel that according to Nintendo is an improvement over the previous display.

Samsung Display says that it aims to increase its QD-OLED monitor panel shipments to 1.43 million units in 2025, an increase of 50% over 2024. The company plans to launch new products, that it has already announced, mainly its 27" 4K panel which offers the highest pixel density (160 PPI) of all 27-inch OLED panels and its 27" 500hz QHD panel that it will start mass producing.

According to Omdia, OLED monitor panel shipments increased from only 8,300 units in 2021 to 160,000 units in 2022, 820,000 units in 2023 - that's a CAGR of 300% from 2021 to 2024. Omdia estimates that SDC holds a market share of 71.2% in the global OLED monitor panel market, with its QD-OLED panels.

LG Display announced that it has started mass producing its latest WOLED panel, a 45" 1300 nits 21:9 5K2K panel, aimed towards high-end gaming monitors. The panel offers LGD's Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology that enables a choice between two modes, 5K2K 165Hz or FHD 330Hz.

Towards the end of 2024, LG Electronics unveiled the first monitor to use this new panel, in its UltraGear GX9 monitor series.

Last week LG Electronics officially launched its 2025 OLED TV range, where some of the high-end models reaching 4,000 nits. LG Display today unveiled the technology behind these new OLED displays.

LGD refers to this architecture as a "Primary RGB Tandem structure". 

LG Display announced that it has started to mass produce its 26.5-inch 480Hz QHD (2560x1440) Gaming OLED panel. This is the world's first 480hz OLED panel, and it offers a 0.02 ms response time, and it is equipped with LG's MLA technology to ehance the light output.

A few weeks ago Acer announced its Predator X27U F3 monitor, that is based on LG's 480Hz OLED, and it's likely that this monitor will start shipping soon.
