Samsung is looking into eMagin's direct patterning technology for its 2nd-gen OLED microdisplays

Samsung Display has recently launched an OLED microdisplay project, hoping to supply displays to Apple and other AR developers. Samsung is still at an early stage of development, aiming to start producing displays by 2024, with limited capacity.

SDC's first generation displays will adopt a WOLED-CF architecture, which uses a white OLED emission layer with color filters. This is the same design used by almost all OLED microdisplay developers, but one that seriously reduces the brightness and efficiency of the display.

eMagin reports its financial results for Q2 2022

OLED microdisplay maker eMagin reported its financial results for Q2 2022, with revenues of $7.2 million (up 14% from Q2 2021). The company's net loss was $1.4 million. At the end of the quarter, eMagin had $4.3 million in cash and equivalents. The company's backlog is $14.3 million.

eMagin says that it achieved increased sales of displays in both the defense sector (mainly the ENVG-B program) and also to the veterinary and surgical markets.

eMagin reports its Q2 2022 preliminary financial results

OLED microdisplay maker eMagin announced its preliminary financial results for the 2nd quarter of 2022. The company says it expects revenues to grow 11-14% compared to Q2 2022, to reach $7 to $7.2 million.

eMagin says that its strong performance was due to strength in its military business, as well as increased demand from medical companies. The strong sales were partially offset by a decrease in contract revenues. As of June 30, 2022, the Company’s backlog of open orders was $14.3 million, including $12.8 million of orders that were shippable within 12 months.

EO System uses eMagin's OLED microdisplays in a range of defense products

OLED microdisplay maker eMagin announced that EO System Company (EOST) , an established electro-optical devices defense supplier, has been using the company's range of OLED microdisplays in its products.

EOST is using eMagin's displays in its snipers thermal weapon sights, thermal imaging systems and binocular systems for surveillance. The company says it has deployed over a dozen different eMagin OLED microdisplays over the years. eMagin says that its current backlog to EOST is over $1 million.

OLED microdisplay maker eMagin has been awarded a $2.5 million US Army contract towards a high-brightness, full-color direct-emission OLED microdisplay prototype project. The project includes the development of manufacturing process technologies

eMagin reported strong Q1 2022 financial results

OLED microdisplay maker eMagin reported its financial results for Q1 2022, with a strong quarter. Revenues were $7.4 million (up 9% from 2021), as production increased 27% compared to 2021. The company's operating loss declined to $1.2 million ($2 million in Q1 2021), and its net loss was $0.1 million ($1.3 million adjusted for changes in warrant liability).

eMagin reports preliminary Q4 2021 financial results

OLED microdisplay maker eMagin posted its preliminary financial results for Q4 2021. eMagin sees increased product revenues in the range of $6.8 to $7 million (up 10% to 13% from Q4 2020). Contract revenues were about $0.2 million (down from $1.5 million in Q4 2020).

eMagin says that its core military business is enjoying a ramp up in volume, and the company's backlog at the end of the year increased 26% from the end of 2020. The lower contract revenues were primarily due to timing of development work for a tier-one consumer customer, but eMagin continues to work on this project and anticipates ongoing contract revenue with this customer.
