Sidtek to invest $220 million to expand its OLED microdisplay module fab in Meishan

Sidtek has signed an agreement with the local government in Meishan, to expand its OLED microdisplay module fab. The total investment required for this expansion project (Meishan Phase II) will be 1.6 billion Yuan, or about $226 million USD.

Sidtek says that this investment will include, in addition to the capacity expansion, also an establishment of an IC R&D centre, and an OEM production line for AR/VR headset production. Sidtek says that after the expansion, it will have the yearly capacity to produce 13 million OLED microdisplay modules, and 3 million headsets.

Sidtek says that this new production capacity will be able to fully support its 12-inch OLED microdisplay production line in Wuhu. This investment will also strengthen its IC R&D capabilities will also extend its business value chain as it will be able to provide headset production services. It is likely that the company aims to offer a full suit of service to headset developers, thus increasing its OLED microdisplays competitiveness in a market that suffers from over supply.
