Over the past few months we heard several reports that Samsung will soon release AMOLED tablets. Most of these reports suggested that the tablets will have screen sized 8" and 10.5" and will be premium but mass-produced tablets. Now the SamMobile blog says they confirmed that Samsung is indeed developing an OLED tablet that will use a 2560x1600 display.
The screen size itself is unknown yet, but it will probably indeed be between 8" to 10". According to SamMobile, there will be three variants for this table (Wi-Fi, 3G and LTE) and they even know the model numbers (SM-T800, SM-T801, SM-T805).
Back in January 2014 Samsung electronics announced plans to start adopting OLEDs in more products - including in tablets. The only OLED tablet so far from Samsung's is the 2011 Galaxy Tab 7.7 with its 7.7" Super AMOLED Plus 1280x800 display. This was a premium small tablet and it was estimated that Samsung shipped only 500,000 of those OLED tablets.

I have been using a Galaxy Tab 7.7 pretty much since it was released more than 2 years ago, daily, heavily. The screen was and still is the killer feature of this tablet. There is still nothing around coming close to it in real daily usage. LCDs will never be able to match the linearity of OLED, especially in dark areas, and even IPS doesn't come close if we talk about viewing angles. The resolution doesn't look great on paper but the lack of bleeding easily offsets that, it is very crisp.
As for ageing, the screen is pretty much as good as new, I can't see any aspect of it that degraded over time.
Last point, the 7.7 is more compact and with a better autonomy that anything that came after in that size range. In my opinion, just replacing the connector for a standard mini usb, a beefier processor, 4G and 3Gb+ of RAM would make it perfect. I would even put a higher res screen only as a nice-to-have feature.
As for selling "only" 500K units, do not forget that Apple got this very tablet removed from the market shortly after launch supposedly for patent infrigement (they probably patented the "best-in-class device" concept).
I agree with you 100%! OLED display quality is second to none!
and I have the 7.7 inch tablet and enjoy the display but had to reduce the brightness to minimum since it was aging. A frined of mine just got his note3 and the burn-in was visible after a week. I did suggest to him to drop the brightness to slow down the aging.
One thing to consider is that the high resolution displays come with smaller apperture ratio and thus higher current density. The outcome is much faster aging.
P.S. I think the advertisement videos for cellphone shops are selected properly so that they do not have too much static iamges. If the display ages with those videos, it will surely age with normal usage of tablet at proper brightness.
I have the other Super AMOLED tablet - the Toshiba Excite 7.7 from 2012.
Looking forward to to the 8 inch Samsung tablet. Once you go AMOLED, you don't go back.
Recently, I was checking an S4 at a cellphone shop and it was aged really badly! I am not sure if the cellphone model will be applied to a premium tablet. People replace cellphones after 2 years or sooner with subsidies. However, for tablet, they need to pay the full price upfront and they will not be happy if it ages.
