Samsung is set to unveil its Galaxy XR headset (previously known as Project Moohan) on October 21, and Android Headlines yesterday posted what it says are official photos and information on the upcoming headset.
According to the leaked info, the Galaxy XR uses dual 4K microdisplays. According to our information, these are Sony's 1.3" 4K (3,552 × 3,840) OLED microdisplays (ECX344A). The headset also includes multiple sensors, eye tracking, voice tracking, Google’s Android XR platform and access to Google's Gemini AI. The headset weighs 545 grams.
We already reported in April 2024 that Samsung will utilize Sony's OLED microdisplays in its first generation VR headset. A few months ago we reported that Samsung is looking into adding Samsung Display as a second supplier, to make sure it has enough supply if demand picks up. It is also likely that Samsung Display is not sure yet whether it should fully enter the OLED microdisplay market, and whether the required investment is a good idea, considering the current over capacity state of the industry.

According to reports last year, Microsoft has already signed up Samsung Display for future OLED microdisplay supply.
