Samsung is looking to expand its foldable OLED production capacity, as demand from Apple to increase in 2027

Samsung Display is starting producing foldable OLEDs for Apple's iPhone Fold (that will be released later this year), and according to reports in Korea, the company is planning to expand its foldable OLED production capacity. Samsung Display estimates that the demand for its foldable displays, mainly from Apple itself and Samsung Electronics will be higher than its current A3 facility can provide.

A render concept of a foldable Apple iPhone smartphone with a Samsung Display OLEDSDC, according to the reports, is looking to enhance its A4 production line so it too can produce foldable OLEDs.  It is interesting to note that the report suggests that the main enhancements to the A4 line will focus on the backplane process.

Samsung aims to introduce the new capacity by next year, as it expects that demand will rise sharply compared to 2026, as Apple will order panels for both the 1st-Gen iPhone Fold, and also introduce a 2nd-Gen device. Apple has chosen Samsung Display to be its exclusive supplier of foldable OLEDs, and , signed a 11 million unit order with SDC towards the end of 2025.
