Samsung Display has decided to build a new OLED module production line in Vietnam, mostly to produce automotive OLED modules and IT OLED modules.
The new production line will be built in Yen Phong industrial park in Bac Ninh province east of Hanoi, close to an existing Samsung Electronics plant. It is understood that the Vietnamese government will provide support for Samsung's new line, which will cost a total of around $1.8 billion.
Samsung is already heavily invested in Vietnam, and the company now operates 6 manufacturing plant, and R&D center, and a sales subsidiary. The group employs around 90,000 people in Vietnam and has invested over $22 billion dollar to date.
This investment will increase Samsung Group's cumulative investment in Bac Ninh Province by approximately 28%, from the current $6.5 billion (approximately 8.7 trillion won) to $8.3 billion (approximately 11 trillion won). Samsung, the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) company in Vietnam, has invested a total of $22.4 billion in the country to date. The company operates six manufacturing plants, one research and development (R&D) center, and one sales subsidiary in Vietnam, employing approximately 90,000 workers. Samsung already has OLED module production lines in Vietnam, including several that produce foldable OLEDs.
Other OLED makers are also producing OLED modules in Vietnam - including LG Display, and BOE.
