Researchers from Zhejiang University of Technology have designed a high performance green phosphorescent OLED emitter, that offers a record lifetime of 540,100 hours, LT90 at 1,000 cd/m2.
The new green emitter offers a very narrow emission, 14.8 nm FWHM (CIE 0.22,0.75), and a high current efficiency of up to 174 candela per ampere.
The researchers explain that the design of this tetradentate green Pt(II) emitter has a rigid three-dimensional structure via extended π-conjugation and bulky substituents. This molecular engineering approach effectively suppresses excited-state geometric distortion, resulting in a the FWHM reported above (that was optimized by using a microcavity-enhanced top-emitting device, controlling constructive and destructive interferences).
