Reports from Korea suggest that Apple has reached out to its iPhone AMOLED suppliers, Samsung Display, LG Display and BOE, and has increased its orders for OLED panels.
The reports suggest that the reason for this increase is Apple's plan to increase its inventory size, following the recent sharp rise in memory and chip prices. Apple believes this trend will continue and that prices will even increase further, and so it aims to but OLED displays at current prices.
Technically, Apple increased its OLED panel inventory holding period to six weeks, up from four weeks before. This is somewhat of a strange report, as while we are seeing an increased price in some components, actually we are seeing a decrease in the price of OLED displays, from lower-priced flexible panels produced in China to the very high-end displays that Apple is using. It may be that Apple is sensing that OLED makers will start to increase prices in the future.
