Large month Samsung Electronics signed a massive $16.5 billion foundry contract with Tesla, to supply it with chips, and according to a new report from Korea, the same deal also includes an agreement to supply AMOLED displays for Tesla's upcoming robots.
The reports suggests that these are 8-inch AMOLED displays, that will begin shipping in 2027. Interestingly, it is said that these OLEDs will not be used by Tesla's cars - but rather be used in the company's upcoming Humanoid robot, currently called Optimus.
Tesla actually plans to launch the first Optimus product in 2026, but the first generation commercialized robot may not include a display, and this deal is for the next iteration that may include a large display to simulate a head for the robot. It is noted that OLED display will enable higher power efficiency, low weight and freeform design - things that will be highly useful for a humanoid robot product.
