Photronics, producer of photomasks for the IC and display industries, announced that it has received its most advanced mask writer for the FPD market at its facility in Korea. The company plans to install the tool by the end of the quarter.

Photonics says that it will be the first company in the world to utilize such a mask writer, that will enable it to deliver the most advanced AMOLED photomasks, up to 8.6-Gen in size. Not only supporting larger substrates, the new mask writer will also enable to write masks with higher resolution, stability and accuracy.
It is likely that Photronics plans to support Samsung Display's IT AMOLED 8.6-Gen fab with these new masks. The company's photomasks are used to deposit TFT backplanes (not to be confused with FMM masks used to deposit the OLED organic materials).
