Kaneka announce an OLED lighting competition

Kaneka is developing OLED Lighting panels, and have announced a competition - to design a lighting object to be set up in bars. Kaneka will present a bar space (designed by the architect Mr. Koichi Suzuno) based on the 'Attractive bars in Japan' theme in the MilanoSalone 2011 exhibition. This bar venue will be using designs from the competition.

The first prize is one million yen (about $12,000) and an invitation to the exhibition. There are also 3 runner up prizes. You can send your designs by January 10th.

Back in April, Kaneka gave us some technical details about their OLED panels, saying they are 'ready to be shipped'. According to an updated technical paper, it seems that they aren't actually making any prototypes yet. It also turns out that Kaneka are working on 3 types of panels: a smalls square (63x63mm, 50x50mm active area size), a large square (90x90mm, 80x80mm active size) and a triangle (63mm on each side, 60mm side of active area).

The square panels will be available in seven colors: white (warm colors equivalent to 2,500 K and 3,000 K / a fluorescent color equivalent to 5,500 K), red, orange, blue, and green. The triangular panels will be available in five colors: white (a warm color equivalent to 3,000 K), red, orange, blue, and green.
