Garmin launches the first microLED smartwatch, with a round 1.4" 4,500-nits display

Garmin launched the world's first microLED wearable, the Fenix 8 MicroLED smartwatch. It uses a 1.4" 454x454 round microLED display that offers a brightness of 4,500 nits. This is the world's brightest smartwatch, as OLED panels today achieve only 3,000 nits . 

The Fenix 8 MicroLED costs $1,999 - or $700 more than the Fenix 8 Pro AMOLED watch. It is likely that the microLED display carries a wide premium over comparable OLEDs, and it will be be very interesting to watch whether microLED makers can produce panels at lower costs in the future. Capacity at the AUO (the rumored producer) microLED line is relatively very low. But OLED wearable panel makers should definitely pay attention to the microLED industry.

 

It's important to note that 4,500 nits should not not be a problem for OLEDs, technically, but we are not aware of any OLED wearable with such high brightness.
