From our friend Tiernan Ray at Barron's:

"Shares of Universal Display (OLED), which makes technology for organic light-emitting diode-based displays in mobile phones and televisions, are down $3.07, or 8%, at $35.10, after it said this morning it lost a legal judgement at a special closed-door session of the European Patent Office yesterday, where Sumitomo Chemical, BASF, and Merck Patent GmbH will challenging its patent claims.

Manuel Asensio, the gadfly who’s made Universal his White Whale, and doggedly chronicled what he believes are the holes in Universal’s patent story, took a victory lap, declaring the ruling “a historic and momentous victory of real OLED industry manufacturers over UDC, which is … a patent troll.” And Canaccord Genuity’s Jonathan Dorsheimer, reiterating a Sell rating, writes “this decision is potentially transformational and likely to affect the Samsung agreement, roughly +90% of OLED sales.”
