Philips looking at phosphorescent OLED lighting future(byline: 20 Jan 2014)

Electronics multinational Philips has announced that it will look into the viability of adopting phosphorescent (PH)OLED technology from US firm Universal Display (UDC).According to the terms of the agreement signed in November 2013, Philips will sample the patented technology and materials to evaluate their potential to contribute to future high-efficiency, solid-state lighting. The agreement is a good fit for Philips, which already has a well-established green product pedigree, including developing its own Lumiblade OLED brand.Commenting on the accord Steven Abramson, president and CEO of UDC, remarks: 'As demonstrated through the years, our PHOLED technology has the potential to maximise energy efficiency and contribute to high-performance lighting devices. We are delighted to announce this partnership with Philips, a global market leader in the lighting industry.'
