AU Optronics (AUO) expects its 6G LTPS facilities in Kunshan, China to enter mass production in July 2016. The fab will be primarily aimed at providing high-end products to customers in China.

The company also plans to unfold 25,000 substrates in capacity at its 8.5G Houli, Taiwan-based facilities during the first quarter of 2015.

For 2016 AUO will allocate NT$40 billion (US$1.2 billion) in capex.

Fellow Taiwan maker Innolux meanwhile will have a NT$35 billion capex budget during 2016, and is building new 6G LTPS along with 8.6G a-Si TFT LCD fabs.

The 6G facilities will have a monthly capacity of about 23,000-24,000 substrates and go into mass production in the first half of 2016. The fab will also reportedly be equipped with AMOLED technology
