Direct sunlight: Nokia's CBD Lumia 900 beats the Galaxy S and the iPhone 4

DisplayMate performed some testing of several smartphones and tablets under bright ambient lighting. The handset that came on top was Nokia's Lumia 900 (which uses the company' ClearBlack Display technology and an AMOLED display). The second-best handsets are the iPhone 4 and the Super-AMOLED packing Samsung Galaxy S.

It would have been a more balanced test, if they had tested against the direct competitors, the Galaxy SII and the iPhone 4S.

Agreed. While I feel the iPhone 4's "Retina" aka IPS LCD is a direct competitor as it is the same screen used in the iPhone 4S, the use of the old Super AMOLED "Pentile" Display instead of the "RGB Matrix" Super AMOLED Plus is quite unfair.

I actually compared the Nokia Lumia 900 (AT&T version) with my Sprint Epic 4G Touch (Galaxy S II) and the whites on the GSII is much more white especially when browsing the web. The CBD is definately a strong competitor in the reproduction of Red, Green and Blue colors but the white reproduction (not sure if they use a RGBW or RGB array) needs work. Hope to see Super Clear Black Display Plus in the future LOL.
