MagnaChip

MagnaChip is a Korean designer and manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products for high-volume consumer applications. The company's main markets are Semiconductor Manufacturing Services, Display solutions and Power solutions.

MagnaChip offers driver ICs for AMOLED displays, and since 2007 the company shipped over 500 million driver ICs. In 2018 the company reported high growth in its AMOLED driver business.

In May 2018 Magnachip launched its 3rd-generation 40-nm OLED display driver (DDIC) that supports edge-type displays, 21:9 and bezel-less displays and notch-type OLEDs. The company later announced that it is developing a new flexible OLED display driver based on the company's ultra-low power 28-nanometer process.

Novatek Microelectronics

Novatek logoEstablished in 1997, Taiwan-based Novatek Microelectronics Corp. is a fabless chip design company that provides a wide range of display driver ICs and SoC solutions.

Novatek develops drivers for both small-sized and large-area displays - LCD and AMOLED displays.

In 2019 the company says that its current OLED driver shipments are about a million unit per month, and it expects this number to double in the near future.

OLED Materials Solutions

OLED Materials solutions, established in June 2014 in Japan, was formed by Nippon Electric Glass (60%) and Saint-Gobain (40%) to develop, manufacture and market glass substrates with internal extraction layers for OLED Lighting panels.

Polyera

Polyera logoUS-based Polyera was established in 2005 to develop OTFT based backplanes for flexible displays. The company raised over $30 million in several financing rounds, and has a flexible display pilot line in Taiwan.

In December 2014 the company demonstrated a flexible OLED panel, and in August 2015 they announced their first product, the Wove Band flexible E Ink smart band, to be released in the second half of 2016. In December 2015 we posted an interview with the company's VP of special operations.

PPG Industries

PPG Industries logoPPG Industries, founded in 1883 and based in Pittsburgh US, produces specialty and commodity chemicals, coatings, optical products and glass products.

Since 2000, PPG is the exclusive supplier of Universal Display's PHOLED materials. PPG is also developing OLED lighting substrates based on the company's glass coating technologies.

Rapt Touch

Rapt Touch logoIreland-based Rapt Touch (RAPT) is a provider of optical multi-touch systems for display makers and systems integrators. RAPT developed a unique and patented optical touch technology that is fully compatible with OLED displays, at all sizes.

RAPT's FTIR technology is based on low-cost LEDs that create an optical mesh of infrared light signals, read by photodetectors. The LEDs and the photodetectors are placed on the edge of the OLED display. The performance is not affected by capacitive coupling or display pattern noise, and can be used on any screen size.

RAPT's solution offers superb optical and touch performance and is highly compatible with OLED displays. The technology is cost effective as it is based on off-the-shelf components and its costs grow linearly with size (unlike other touch solutions).

RAPT Touch is a privately held company, with over 90 issued patents. RAPT’s products have already been deployed in several projects and systems, including Google’s 55” Jamboard, and HiteVision products.

Raydium Semiconductor

The company's product line includes source drivers, gate drivers, mobile phone ICs and A/V applications. integrated driver IC for mobile phone, AV applications, General Display.

Raydium develops drivers for both LCD and AMOLED displays.

Rolic Technologies

Rolic Technologies logoRolic Technologies, based in Switzerland, develops and markets nanoscale surface modification systems that achieve unique light management and optical effects. Rolic has three business units: displays, security and organic electronics. For the OLED market, Rolic develops materials that improve light outcoupling, lifetime and efficiency for OLED displays and lighting panels.

Rolic Technologies has been researching OLED encapsulation and out-coupling layers since 2012 with the Holst Center. In 2013 the company opened a new OLED development center to commercialize those technologies.

In early 2017 Rolic was acquired by BASF.

Rolith

Rolith logoUS-based Rolith develops advanced nanostructured coating and devices based on proprietary technology for high throughput large surface area nanolithogragy.

Rolith's technology can be used for several applications, including OLED panels.

In 2016, Rolith was acquired by Canada-based Metamaterial Technologies (MTI).

Sanayi

Sanayi logoSanayi System, established in Korea in 2002, is a supplier of simulation software for LCD displays, OLED displays and touch panels.

For the OLED industry, Sanayi offers its TechWiz OLED software that provides OLED optical characteristic (EQE and outcoupling).

Sapien Semiconductors

 Sapien Semiconductors logoKorea-based Sapien Semiconductors is fabless design house that develops innovative CMOS backplane ASICs for both OLEDs and microLED displays. The company utilizes its patented PWM-based pixel driving circuit to achieve low power consumption.

Sapien offers a CMOS backplane ASIC that can achieve a pixel structure of 2-microns or smaller (over 12,000 PPI).

 

Schrödinger

Schrödinger develops chemical simulation software for use in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and materials. The company integrates predictive physics-based simulation with machine learning techniques to accelerate materials design.

Schrödinger’s platform supports organic materials, and can be used to predict with a high degree of accuracy key properties of molecular materials used in OLEDs, OPVs and printed/flexible electronics.

Sefar AG

Sefar LogoSwizerland-based Sefar AG produces highly conductive, transparent and robust electrode materials for large area optoelectronics. Sefar's electrodes are based on fine metallic wires and are suitable for printed and evaporated devices such as flexible OLED lighting devices.

Sino Wealth

Sino Wealth logoSino Wealth, established in 1994 in Shanghai, China, specializes in the design and sales of integrated circuits. The company offers microcontrollers for several markets (I/O, LCD, ADC, IR and more).

Sino Wealth offers drivers for PMOLED displays, and is also developing AMOLED drivers.

Software for Chemistry Materials (SCM)

SCM logoSoftware for Chemistry Materials (SCM) was established in 1995 as a spin-out from the theoretical chemistry department of the VU University Amsterdam with an aim to develop and market the Amsterdam Density Functional (ADF) software that has unique capabilities for modeling molecular properties of OLED materials.

Notably, ADF predicts phosphorescent lifetimes of transition metal complexes (used as OLED phosphors) through first-principle methods. ADF can also assess charge mobilities and exciton couplings in organic semi-conductors.

Solar-Tectic

Solar-Tectic logoUS-based Solar-Tectic LLC develops high quality low-cost thin-film solutions for the solar (including tandem perovskite/crystalline silicon), display, and glass industries.

In November 2017 Solar-Tectic announced a new backplane technology called LT1CS (Low temperature single crystal silicon) which the company says is a lower-cost alternative to LTPS.
