Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi is a "community" that consists of a multitude of independent companies involved in a wide range of markets including automobiles, plastics, electronics, hotels, banking and more. Several of these companies are involved with OLEDs:

Mitsubishi Chemicals is working towards OLED materials together with UDC. They have also entered the OLED Lighting market together with Pioneer in February 2010 and are selling OLED panels under the Verbatim brand (Verbatim is owned by Mitsubishi Chemicals).

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has decided to start making OLED display panels back in 2007, although we did not hear about these efforts since.

Mitsui Chemicals

Mitsui Chemicals logoMitsui Chemicals was established in 1997 in Tokyo, Japan. The company develops and markets chemicals (petrochemicals, basic chemicals, polyurethane, industry chemicals, etc.). Mitsui's Fine & Performance Chemical divisions develops and markets small molecule OLED materials.

Mitsui is co-developing OLED materials together with Idemitsu Kosan (the partnership was announced in 2006) and also owns a part of Lumiotec, a Japanese consortium that develops and markets OLED lighting panels.

Noctiluca

Noctiluca, established in 2019 in Torun„, Poland, is developing TADF emitters for third- and fourth-gen (Hyperfluorescence) OLED systems. The company also offers custom synthesis and R&D services as a chemical CRO.

Noctiluca's patented donor-acceptor-donor emitters show TADF effect with high quantum yield. Noctiluca is still at an early-stage of development.

 

In April 2022 the company went public in Poland's NewConnect stock exchange.

Novaled

Orthogonal

Orthogonal logoOrthogonal, based in Rochester, NY, US is developing proprietary photoresist solution that allows direct patterning of OLED materials for flexible display applications.

Orthogonal is using fluorinated chemicals that behaves and performs the same standard photoresist, yet is fully compatible with organic electronic materials.

Ossila

Ossila logoOssila is a UK based company (spun-off from the University of Sheffield Physics department) that supplies components and materials for rapid prototyping of organic electronics (OLEDs, OPVs and OFETs). The company also provides contract services and test equipment and materials testing.

OTI Lumionics

OTI Lumionics logoOTI Lumionics was established in 2011 by researchers and engineers from the University of Toronto, with an aim to develop OLED lighting technologies.

OTI is currently focused on OLED material development, including electrode materials and transparent conductors. In August 2020 the company announced that it will start shipping its 2nd-gen ConducTorr Cathode Patterning Materials (CPM) by the end of 2020 to customers, which will use these to create OLED displays with under-the-display camera and face unlock technologies. We posted an interview with the company's CEO in June 2021.

P&H Tech

P&H Tech logoKorea-based P&H Tech produces chemicals for the semiconductor and the display industry.

For the OLED market, the company produces EBL, HTL, host materials and OLED intermediates.

Since 2021 P&H Tech is a public company that trades at the KOSDAQ.

Pixelligent

US-based Pixelligent is an advanced materials company that delivers next generation optical materials applications in lighting and displays. For both LED and OLED lighting applications, the company provides materials that significantly increase light output by increasing the refractive index of materials in the device.

Pixelligent has been awarded several OLED projects by the US DoE and is collaborating with OLEDWorks and the ORNL. In August 2015 the company officially launched its PixClear family of light extraction materials for OLED lighting panels.

R-Display & Lighting

R-Display and Lighting logoR-Display & Lighting (RDL) was established in 2011 by an ex-Kodak professional to develop OLED technologies.

RDL is developing technology and materials (including emitter and charge transporting materials) for both OLED display and lighting products.

Runyu Material

XinXiang Runyu Material logoChina-based XinXiang Runyu Material is a manufacturer of organic phosphine ligands and coupling solutions service provider in China.

For the OLED industry, Runyu Material is offering OLED intermediates.

Samsung SDI

Samsung SDI logoSamsung SDI was established in 1970, starting out as a display maker - making CRTs, LCDs and PDP panels. The company handled Samsung's OLED business but in 2008 Samsung Mobile Display was spun off to handle all of Samsung's mobile display (this was later merged into Samsung Display). Samsung SDI changed its focus to renewable energy (mostly L-ion batteries).

In March 2014, Samsung SDI acquired Samsung's Cheil Industries for $3.3 billion who's involved with electronic materials - including OLED materials. In August 2013, Cheil Industries (together with Samsung Electronics) acquired Novaled for €260 million. So Samsung SDI is now involved with OLED materials and is a major stakeholder in Novaled.

Saralon

Germany-based Saralon, established in 2015 based on technology from the Chemnitz University of Technology, provides materials, products and services to the printed electronics industry.

Saralon offers a flexible OLED material kit that includes several screen-printing inks that can be used to deposit integrated OLED labels.

Sensient Imaging Technologies GmbH

Sensient Imaging Technologies (formerly known as SynTec, and today a subsidiary of the US based Sensient Technologies Corporation) is a German manufacturer of highly specialized performance chemicals for OLED displays and laser printing equipment.

Sensient has started researching and developing OLEDs back in 1998 and today the company produces and markets over 100 different OLED chemicals.

SEQENS

SEQENS logoSEQENS, based in Paris is an integrated pharmaceutical synthesis and specialty ingredients producer. The company was established in 2019 following the acquisition of PCAS and other companies by the Novacap group.

For organic electronic applications, SEQENS offers evaporable small molecules, transparent electrode materials, active conductive polymers, smart luminescent polymers and substrate materials.

Shaanxi Light Optoelectronic (LTOPTO)

Xian LumChem logoShaanxi Light Optoelectronic (previously LumChem Optoelectronics ) is headquartered in the Xi'an Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone in China.

The company develops, produces and markets pharmaceutical intermediates, OLED intermediates and high-pure electronic chemicals.

Shine Materials Technology

Shine Materials Technology logoEstablished in 2011 in Taiwan, Shine Materials Technology produces organic electronic materials, with a focus on OLED display materials.

Shine Materials currently produces intermediate OLED materials, TADF emitters, OLED stack materials and also offers custom synthesis services.

SmartKem

SmartKem is an early-stage UK-based company that develops a new class of flexible high-mobility p-type semiconductor inks for flexible displays.

Smartkem provides customized solutions involving molecular synthesis, electronic prototyping and on-site technology transfer support. In November 2013 the company announced a joint-development agreement with a major Asian display maker. In August 2014 SmartKem raised million Euro from BASF ventures and other investors. In total the company raised $37 million so far.
