HP to ship its first AMOLED laptops in April 2019

HP introduced its 2019 Spectre x360 15 high-end laptop in CES 2019 - including a top-of-the-line variant that sports a 15.6" 4K AMOLED display. HP originally aimed to start shipping it in March 2019, but this did not happen and according to Anandtech, the company says it now hopes to start shipping it on April 19.

Interestingly Anandtech also says that HP will release an updated HP Envy laptop which will also sport the same AMOLED display. We do not have more details on the new Envy laptop yet.

The HP OLED laptops use SDC's new 15.6" 4K AMOLED display, which the company started producing in February 2019. Samsung says that the new AMOLED panels, in addition to the very high resolution, feature high contrast ratio, extreme color accuracy, full HDR compatibility, a very wide color gamut, and remarkable outdoor visibility. Samsung also says that the displays support the entire DCI-P3 color gamut - while emitting "significantly less blue wavelengths" compared to LCDs. Blue light emission can potentially be harmful to the eye.

We are getting closer to finally see consumer OLED laptops rolling out on the market : so looking forward to see a bigger rollout, but realistically it will likely take at least 2 to 5 years before it reach 5% to 30% of new laptops have an OLED display...

Future is coming but it is a slow coming...
