Samsung Gear now supports the GS4, GS3, Note 2 and more devices

When Samsung launched the Galaxy Gear, the only devices that could connect to it were the new Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. Now Samsung announced that it is offering Android updates (to v4.3) to more devices (including the GS4, GS3 and the Note 2) and these will now be able to connect to the Galaxy Gear.

The Galaxy Gear, Samsung's first smartwatch, features a 1.63" 320x320 (275 PPI) Super AMOLED display, a 1.9 mp camera (720p videos), 800Mhz processor, 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, Bluetooth 4, and a 315 mAh non-removeable battery. The gear now shipping from Amazon for $299.99.

Actually what Samsung is saying is that ONCE they do offer the Andorid 4.3 Jelly Bean update for these models, these models will then be able to operate the Gear.

Seeing how it usually takes years for Samsung and the mobile phone carriers to release these updates for older devices this probably means GS3 users will be able to get them at some point in 2015 or 2016.

Case in point: I live in Germany and still have to run my GS3 on Androind 4.1.2 because other updates are not yet officially available from my carrier. I know that I could root the device and get 4.3, but that would mean losing my warranty and as I had one GS3 die on me already I am not willing to do so.
