As a VR platform, the system will stack up against the highest-end headsets. It has higher pixel density than any VR system currently on the market, absolutely no screen-door effect, with head-tracker latency of 1 millisecond (ms). It also has low-persistence OLED displays with up to 120 fps and high contrast. http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160601006256/en/ODG-OTOY-Join-Forces-Create-Uncompromising-Platform
“Project Horizon” is expected to bring not one, but two jumps in resolution to an estimated ‘2K per eye’ . http://vrworld.com/2016/06/03/project-horizon-ultimate-mixed-reality-headset/
Very interesting Frankenberry, nice find! I posted a story on this. Thanks!
Thanks Ron , here's some of my thoughts .
Evidence points strongly to ODG using eMagin displays . Another article has this to say :
"The glasses work by using a pair of micro OLED displays to reflect images into your eyes at 120 frames-per-second. And the quality blew Urbach away, he tells Business Insider."
Note the "Project Horizon" prototype in the picture .

I'm not sure this first version is using the eMagin 2k X 2k . I'm thinking it may be eMagin's WUXGA . While 1920 x1200 doesn't fall into the official definition of 2K it can fall into the broad definition . Actually 1920 x 1200 has 2,304,000 pixels vs 2k at 2048 x 1080 with 2,211,840 pixels .
I believe ODG may be swapping their current LCOS display in the R-7 with the eMagin WUXGA as this will be the quickest way to get product out & then maybe work on a 2k X 2k version in the next gen .
Another interesting point is the move toward Hollywood/Entertainment although gaming is closely associated via the visual FX developments .

EMAN:
From last CC . 4K x 4K 35mm (35mm like film also Andrew Sculley came from Kodak the film king ) .
"We're also looking to build the prototype display that is 35 millimeters by 35 millimeters, which we could design with a resolution up to 4,000 by 4,000. "

Speaking of AMD , they clearly have access to EMAN tech & may be working with them on 4k per eye:

I did some digging on OTOY and their partnership with ODG is an amazing advancement as OTOY will provide high resolution streaming to AR/VR devices , however that is just part of the story . They are heavily involved with rendering for Hollywood .
John Carmack has some interesting thing to say about OTOY :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTfR_KBBGbc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQz-M5L92no
Also check out this light field rendering by OTOY . Pay close attention to the beginning of the video to the scene on the monitor . Mind blowing .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H0NMsp1lX0
OTOY is also heavily involved with image capture . Their Lightstage can capture your face & put it in a movie/game .
LightStage is a cutting-edge facial scanning technology that allows for the digital capture of the human face with unparalleled fidelity and scientific accuracy. LightStage efficiently captures how a subject’s face appears when lit from every possible lighting direction. From this captured imagery, specialized algorithms create realistic virtual renditions of the subject in the illumination of any location or set, faithfully reproducing the color, texture, shine, shading, and translucency of the subject’s skin.

I would encourage everyone to explore the OTOY website :

"I had the opportunity to put together a pretty fun AR/Mixed Reality experience for AWE. Its Using our new wide field of view optics that really let the AR medium come to life and fill most of your field of view. See how the 3D Objects interact with the box's on the table. The Osterhout Design GroupTeam really did an awesome job getting this hardware together"
This glasses are fixed so it I'm wondering if it has the spatial capability when moved around like the Hololens .
