China's Magic Star to construct a $140 million 8.6-Gen FMM line in Ningbo

Magic Star announced that it will invest 1 billion Yuan (around $140 million USD) to build a 8.6-Gen FMM production line in Ningbo, China.

Magic Star started to develop 8.6-Gen FMM production technologies some time ago, and last year it announced that its pilot F2 line has successfully produced 8.6-Gen masks. Now it is ready to start building a mass production line. The company expects to start production in 2026 in the new line.

When in full capacity, the new line in Ningbo will be able to produce enough FMM masks to support two or three 8.6-Gen production lines. The company targets local OLED producers in China, that are building 8.6-Gen AMOLED lines (currently Visionox and BOE, see below).

FMM masks has traditionally been produced in Japan and Korea, but Magic Star, established in 2019, became the first company in China to usefully produce and market FMM masks to local OLED producers. It currently produces 6-Gen masks. The company turned profitable in the first quarter of 2025, with orders exceeding 100 million Yuan (around $14 million USD).
