DSCC sees the OLED material market growing from $1 billion in 2018 to over $2 billion in 2022

DSCC analysts say that OLED stack materials will grow from $1.04 billion in 2018 to over $2 billion in 2022 - a CAGR of 17%.

OLED material revenue by application (2017-2023, DSCC)

DSCC says that up until now it greatly underestimated Novaled's revenues, and it now says that Novaled generated revenues of $97 million in 2017 and $122 million in 2018. Novaled is the third largest OLED material company by revenue - following Universal Display and Merck. The three companies combined will hold a market share of 56% in 2023.

CSoT demonstrated new OLED display prototypes and technologies at SID DisplayWeek 2019

China-based display maker CSoT demonstrated several new OLED display prototypes and technologies at SID 2019, and this great new video shows these displays in action.

First up is a 31" 4K (3840 x 2160, 144 PPI) AMOLED that was produced using an ink-jet printing process on an IGZO substrate. The peak brightness is 200 nits and the refresh rate is 120 Hz. This seems to be the same panel announced in March 2018 by Joshua Printing Display Technology (established by CSoT and Tianma in 2016). The display has some noticable defects.

Researchers use reactive ion etching to create nanostructures that boost the efficiency of white OLED devices

Researchers from TU Dresden developed a new method to extract trapped photos from OLED devices. The idea is to generate controllable nanostructures with directional randomness and dimensional order. This method is said to significantly boost the efficiency of white OLED devices. The researchers report that it is possible to achieve an external quantum efficiency of up to 76.3%.

Reactive ion etching for the generation of quasi-periodic nanostructures (TU Dresden)

To produce the nanostructures, the researchers use reactive ion etching, a facile, scalable and lithography-free method. In addition to these advantages, the method enables to specifically control the topography of the nanostructures by adjusting the process parameters.

Seeya developed a 1.03" 2560x2560 OLED microdisplay

China-based OLED Microdisplay producer SeeYa Information Technology is introducing two new OLED microdisplays. The first display is a 1.03" 2560x2560 panel that features a brightness of 3,000 nits. SeeYa says this is the world's largest and highest resolution microdisplay (there are higher resolution displays in development, for example eMagin for example is developing a 4k x 4k OLED microdisplay).

The second display is a 0.72-inch display with a 1920 x 1200 resolution. The 1.03" display is specifically designed for near-eye applications that require a large Field Of View (FoV) - and SeeYa's new dsplay can enable an FoV of over 100 degrees.
