Samsung SDI to dominate shipments, about 90% of the entire 2Q, 2008 shipments
2H, 2008 shipments expected to be minimum 10 million units, possibly more than 12 million units

AMOLED, so called "Dream Display" panel global shipments recorded 7.1 million units during the first half of 2008 and forecasted to be more than 10 million units during the latter half of 2008.

LG Display has decided to construct a new AMOLED producion line in Paju, Gyeonggi, with a 100M$ investment. The plant will start to mass-produce panels in 2010, and will focus on mobile-phones displays, and displays for PMP and navigation (less than 10").

Japanese government and companies team up to develop OLED tech

The Japanese government will team up with several Japanese companies to develop key-technologies for producing large-size OLED panels. The aim is to cut the development cost for the Japanese companies, to be better able to compete against Samsung and LG, and the Japanese government will pitch in around 32$M.

Kodak OLED Systems Information and Interview

Kodak is where OLEDs were first discovered, and they are still in the fore-front of the technology. According to Korea times, LG Display are planning to invest more in their AMOLED business. They are obviously trying to catch up with Sony and Samsung. Sony have plans to invest over 200M$ in AMOLED production, and Samsung is planning to combine SDI's and Samsung Elec's OLED divisions.

UDC - White OLED Technology Exceeds 100 lm/W

Universal Display Corporation today announced that the company has successfully demonstrated a record-breaking white OLED with a power efficacy of 102 lumens per watt (lm/W) at 1000 cd/m2 using its proprietary, high-efficiency phosphorescent OLED technology.

Just last month at the Society for Information Display Symposium, Universal Display announced a new record of 72 lm/W. Since then, Universal Display has continued to make significant advances in this area – achieving yet another major milestone toward commercialization. The milestone also demonstrates the potential of white OLEDs to offer significant energy savings and environmental benefits to end users around the world. For the first time, white OLEDs have surpassed the power efficacy of the two incumbent indoor lighting technologies - incandescent bulbs are less than 15 lm/W and most fluorescent lamps are 60 - 90 lm/W.

LG Display officially Launches OLED Division and Production Line

LG Display formally launched an organic light emitting diode (OLED) division at its Gumi plant in North Gyeongsang Province on Thursday.

LG Display will first focus on developing and producing small products but expand business to producing medium-sized to large televisions, the company said.

Universal Display Presents Significant Advances in White OLED

UDC describes a new simplified WOLED architecture that represents an important milestone toward the achievement of cost-effective OLEDs for lighting applications. Offering a warm white color with CIE coordinates of (0.45, 0.46) and 30 lumens per Watt (with outcoupling), this WOLED device boasts an extremely long operating lifetime, exceeding 200,000 hours at 1,000 cd/m2, and may be suitable for a variety of entry lighting products.

LG Display shows a 15" XGA AMOLED TV

LG Display showed a 15" XGA a-Si AMOLED for OLED TVs. The TV claims a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. This is very low compared to the Sony XEL-1 which boasts a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, although usually contrast measurements are rather sketchy.
