Shipments of 4.34 million units in 2Q, 2008 which portray rapid growth from the starting point of 4Q, 2007
Samsung SDI to dominate shipments, about 90% of the entire 2Q, 2008 shipments
2H, 2008 shipments expected to be minimum 10 million units, possibly more than 12 million units

AMOLED, so called "Dream Display" panel global shipments recorded 7.1 million units during the first half of 2008 and forecasted to be more than 10 million units during the latter half of 2008.

Samsung's new AMOLED unit to be called Samsung Mobile Displays

As reported a few weeks ago, Samsung SDI and Samsung Electronics will combine their OLED units. The company will be called Samsung Mobile Displays, and will focus on AMOLEDs for mobile devices and small TVs.

Japanese government and companies team up to develop OLED tech

The Japanese government will team up with several Japanese companies to develop key-technologies for producing large-size OLED panels. The aim is to cut the development cost for the Japanese companies, to be better able to compete against Samsung and LG, and the Japanese government will pitch in around 32$M.

Samsung SDI to invest 530M$ in AMOLED production

Samsung SDI has announced that they will invest 530M$ in AMOLED production, until mid-2009.

Sony has recently said they will invest 210M$ in their OLED production, and LG also investment plans (with no sum quotes). It seems like the OLED market is finally starting to race ahead, with everyone aiming for 2009...

Kodak OLED Systems Information and Interview

I recently had the chance to interview Mr. Corey Hewitt and Dr. James Buntaine from Kodak OLED Systems. Kodak is where OLEDs were first discovered, and they are still in the fore-front of the technology. According to Korea times, LG Display are planning to invest more in their AMOLED business. They are obviously trying to catch up with Sony and Samsung. Sony have plans to invest over 200M$ in AMOLED production, and Samsung is planning to combine SDI's and Samsung Elec's OLED divisions.

UDC Reviews Company and OLED Industry Progress

At their yearly share holder meeting, UDC reviewed their company's and the OLED industry's progress. UDC also highlights continued adoption of its energy-efficient PHOLED technology in commercial displays and advances in its flexible OLED, white OLED lighting, and printable, phosphorescent P(2)OLED(TM) technologies.

Samsung SDI and Samsung Electronics to combine OLED units

Samsung SDI and Samsung Electronics are in talks to make a joint venture in OLED displays.

Samsung shows a passport with a thin and flexible OLED display

Samsung SDI and German security printer Bundesdruckerei have demonstrated a passport that features a slim and bendable OLED colour display within a polycarbonate data page. The display can be used to provide a raft of information including a video of the document holder.
