Sony's new OLED TV to be called the KDL-ZX, to be introduced in CES 2010

There are rumors (coming from a leaked internal Sony document) that Sony's new OLED TV will be called the Sony KDL-ZX. No more information is available - although interestingly they say it's the KDL-ZX series, so maybe Sony will introduce several new OLEDs?

Sony delays their larger OLED TV (the XEL-2?) to 2010

The Wall Street Journal claims that Sony will delay its larger OLED TV (the XEL-2?) to 2010. Sony knows that Making the large TV will be a loss-making move, and they do not want more losses this year in their TV business.

In may 2008, Sony announced that they will release a 27" OLED TV within 12 months. Later on there were rumors that the new TV will be released in September 2009, during IFA 2009. In April 2009, Sony showed a new 21" OLED HDTV prototype.

Sony has been selling the XEL-1 (11", for 2,500$) for almost two years. They admitted that they actually lose money on each unit sold...

Sony however thinks that it'll take a few years (at least) for OLEDs TVs to surpass LCD TVs. Sony want to 'slowly cultivate' their OLED technology - they plan to deliver 'new lifestyle ideas and applications' using OLEDs.

Sony are rumored to be releasing their next-generation OLED TV (The XEL-2?) at IFA 2009. It will be bigger than the XEL-1, at 21" or 27".

The XEL-2 (that's what we'll call it until Sony gives us an official name) might be a 27" model, as promised by Sony a year ago, or it might be the 21" displays shown just last week. We'll have to wait and see!

Sony has actually announced it will release a new OLED TV (The XEL-2?) by May 2009. The original plan was to release a 27" model, but perhaps this is proving too difficult for Sony, and they will first go with a 21" panel?
