eMagin is engaged in the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of OLED microdisplays. eMagin's traditional markets are the defense and industry ones, but the company is also targeting the consumer VR and AR markets with its latest microdisplays. eMagin trades in the AMEX Stock Exchange (Ticker is EMAN).
The Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems (Fraunhofer IPMS) has over 200 employees, doing research in electronic, mechanical and optical components and their integration into devices and systems.
The Fraunhofer IPMS has been working on OLED since 2000, and in 2009 launched a new department called COMEDD (the Center for Organics, Materials and Electronic Devices Dresden) to handle its OLED research and pilot fabrication. COMEDD was turned into an independent Fraunhofer Institute in 2012 and now it is a business unit at Fraunhofer FEP.
US-based Kopin Corporation is a developer of microdisplays and other components for wearable devices.
In December 2016 Kopin announced it is developing OLED microdisplays, following years of LCD microdisplay development and production.
Established in 2007, MicroOLED is a privately held company based in Grenoble, France that designs and develops high-performance OLED microdisplays for near-to-eye applications.
