New OLED gadget: Vivo V40 SE

Vivo's V40 SE mid-range smartphone offers a 6.67" 120Hz 1080x2400 AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset,  8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, a microSDXC slot, 5G connectivity and a triple camera setup.

The V40 SE will ship in Europe in April 2024, with a price of around $330.

Reports suggest BOE and perhaps Tianma to supply all the AMOLEDs for Apple's iPhone SE 4

A report from China suggests that Samsung will not produce any AMOLEDs for the upcoming Apple iPhone SE 4, as the Korean maker asked for around $30 per unit (6.1-inch) which was too high for Apple. Apple apparantly wanted to pay only $25, and it is estimated that BOE will supply most of the units, with some orders perhaps going to Tianma.

According to reports, Samsung estimated that it will not be able to make a profit in this project and decided to stop the negotiations when Apple insisted on a low price.

New OLED gadget: Vivo X Fold3 / Fold3 Pro

Vivo's X Fold3 smartphone offers a 8.03" 120Hz 4500 nits 2200x2480 LTPO foldable AMOLED display, and also a 6.53" 120Hz 4500 nits 1172x2748 AMOLED display. Other specifications include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage and a triple camera setup.

The X Fold 3 Pro offers the same display, with stronger specifications.

RitDisplay to produce OTFT-driven AMOLED displays by 2026 in collaboration with Smartkem

UK-based OTFT display backplane developer SmartKem announced that it signed a collaboration agreement with based PMOLED-maker RiTdisplay, for the production of OTFT-based AMOLED displays. SmartKem further said that Innovate UK and the Taiwanese Ministry of Economic Affairs will support this project with a grant of around $530,000.

Smartkem will provide its proprietary OTFT materials to RiTdisplay to integrate within its OLED displays. If successful, the project will create the world's first commercially ready AMOLED display made using organic transistors, which will outperform RiT's PMOLEDs with higher brightness, lower power consumption and higher resolutions. Both companies hope that the project will be completed in 2026.

New OLED gadget: Polar Grit X2 Pro

Polar's Grit X2 Pro is an "adventure" smartwatch, that offers a 1.39" 454x454 round AMOLED touch display, dual-band GPS, built-in flashlight, 32GB of internal storage for maps and data, and Fitness and health tracking.

The Grit X2 Pro will ship soon, starting at around $830.

New OLED gadget: Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro

Xiaomi's Civi 4 Pro, the first smartphone to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, offers a 6.55" 3000 nits 120Hz 1236x2750 AMOLED display, up to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, and a triple camera setup with a 50MP 2x optical zoom lens.

The Civi 4 Pro is now available, starting at around $420.

New OLED gadget: OnePlus Ace 3V

The OnePlus Ace 3V smartphone sports a 6.74" 2150 nits (peak) 120Hz 1240x2772 AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage and a dual camera setup.

The OnePlus Ace 3V will ship by March 25 in China, starting at around $280.
