Japan Display announced a strategic investment in OELDWorks, to jointly build an advanced OLED production line in the US

Japan Display (JDI) made an interesting announcement today, saying that it has made a strategic investment in OLEDWorks, and now owns 6.69% of the company. The two companies are also planning to build an advanced OLED production line in the US, targeting high-performance displays for the defense, automotive and medical industries.

JDI did not disclose much else, beyond saying that in addition to the manufacturing hub, it will alsop build an advanced display R&D center in the US, together with OLEDWorks. JDI does seem to emphasize OLEDWorks' multi-stack architecture, which maybe means that this technology will be used in the upcoming production line.

New OLED gadget: GAMEMAX Vision GMX32UCDM

The GAMEMAX VISION GMX32UCDM is a gaming monitor that is based on a 31.5" 240Hz 4K SDC's 3rd-gen QD-OLED panel. It supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC, enhanced USB Type-C port and a built-in headset stand.

Metaways raises $68.5 million in its Series A funding round

China-based OLED microdisplay producer Metaways (also called Zhejiang Hongxi Technology) announced that it has successfully completed its Series A funding round, raising almost 500 million Yuan (around $68.5 million USD).

Metaways is building a 12-inch microdisplay production line in Yiwu City, Zhejiang province, and is developing high-end OLED microdisplays, including a 1.4" 4K product.

Reports suggest quality issues at BOE may shift iPhone OLED orders to Samsung Display and LG Display

Sources in Korea suggest that BOE struggles with supplying AMOLED panels to Apple's iPhone, and Apple may switch some of its orders to LG Display and Samsung Display.

BOE is supplying LTPS AMOLED displays to Apple's iPhone 14, 15 and 16 devices, but the company faces quality issues and Apple has rejected many of its displays. It is estimated that it will take at least 6 weeks for BOE to fix the OLED quality problems, and meanwhile since the beginning of 2024 it managed to ship only about 7-8 million panels to Apple - from orders of around 40 million units.
